My ProCare Story
My name is Brenda Tyrrell. I'm the Owner of two centers - Prime Time Children’s & Youth Activity Center and Panda’s Pride Children’s Center (a Judy Hoyer Child Care Center) of Calvert County, Maryland. I've been using ProCare (and its predecessor) for nearly twenty years.
Back when I started our center there were no more than a dozen books on child care on the library bookshelves, and no software designed for child care on the market. Child care has come a long way in those years, but so has the software, not to mention the "how to" books. ProCare has been able to keep up with the changing market as they keep coming out with new and efficient ways to streamline our work.
We originally met up with the people from ProCare at an NAEYC conference many years ago. Of all the vendors there to talk about their child care software ProCare definitely had it together. We bought a couple of Software Modules and put them to work for us, then bought the rest. I became a Consultant for our local Board of Education which runs before and after school programs (and partners with us on a grant funded program called the Judy Hoyer Center) and recommended they use ProCare as well. They did, and even the staff of their financial department was amazed at all ProCare could do, especially in regard to how the children and money were being tracked. Over time ProCare has grown with us and became a very important part of our program.
We use ProCare Attendance Tracker for checking in and out our staff and children. Using a touch screen staff and parents put in their secret code, touch the name of their child then touch "Finished". This allows us to keep accurate up-to-the-minute time cards for staff and ratios for our children. We are able to charge before and after school children an hourly rate - saving staff time - while allowing parents to pay for time their child is actually in our facility.
Prime Time strives to be a model for child care in our community. We are credentialed by our State office of child care and accredited by the State Department of Education and the National After School Association as well as the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We have won the Governor's Child Care Excellence Award and have been on Fox 5 News twice showcasing our center. ProCare is one of the reasons we are able to do the things we do as the reports they offer make it easy for us to provide the documentation required by these entities.

Prime Time Children’s & Youth Activity Center is located in Owings, Maryland caring for nearly 250 children from 6 weeks to 15 years old. Prime Time employs nearly 50 staff and is celebrating their 20th year serving the community.
